Seasonal storage is primarily used by customers that have wardrobes that are not only functional but also expensive. When you invest in fine garments it is reasonable to expect that they will last longer than your everday wearables. Consumers must keep in mind that each step of care you provide for your wardrobe must be tailored to the type of garment and its value.

Drycleanable garments should be taken to a reputable cleaner that knows exactly how to identify the fabric and the proper method of cleaning, pressing and storage. In most cases, storage is dependent on the season and the fabric of your clothes.

Insect damage is the most common problem among fine woolens. Many of the garments you wear when the weather becomes cooler contain some form of wool, whether it be lambswool, cashmere, angora, mohair, camel, etc. Once the temperature rises above 30 degrees, insects begin to threaten your wardrobe. Please refer to our Moth Fact Sheet for more information on this popular culprit. Off-site storage is effective because your garments are carefully stored in boxes or on hangers (in the case of furs) within a cold temperature vault. Our vault is set at approximately 28 degrees and is the only 100% proven way to make sure your garments do not get insect damage.

It is always best to have your garments cleaned before storage to remove any food or other stains that can attract insects. Of course the removal of stains before storage is much easier when they are fresh and not had an opportunity to set and become permanent.

Summer garment storage is also widely used to prevent damage to silk garments.

Parkway offers off-site temperature-controlled seasonal storage for both hanging items (such as furs) and for boxed items (such as wedding gowns and garments that can be safely folded).
